Tethering my HTC Droid Incredible to my laptop
How awesome is that?!?
I installed PdaNet's tethering software. Here's what the steps were:
Install the pc download
on the phone, go to settings, applications, and turn USB debugging on
connect the phone with its USB cord when prompted, to load the phone with its software
change the Incredible's USB connection to "disk drive" (this was not mentioned in the setup instructions, so far as I could see)
turn on PDAnet on the phone to enable tethering
click on the PDAnet icon on the system tray of your pc to connect
(disconnect from existing broadband connection either before or after connecting with PDAnet)
The connection is so fast, I'm stunned. When the trial version runs out I will pay for the full licensed version.
Now I'm starting to think I may not need to pay for my DSL at home? Hmmmmm.

Well I wouldn't go as far to say that you won't need to pay for broadband internet anymore. Lets not forget, to tether you need to use up the USB port, which means you won't be able to charge while you are tethering. You really think it'd be ok to have your internet completely off every time you have to charge your phone. If/When the phone can be rooted you could wirelessly tether it, that might solve the problem. Also Verizon should not be charging anything for this. You are already paying 29.99/month for unlimited 3G. Tethering is simply moving the connection from the phone to your PC via hardwire, and puts no extra usage on their network, therefore they should not be charging you. This is why people hack and crack stuff, because corporations are too greedy and dishonest.
