What in the world did we ever do

before:
scroll wheels on mouses (mice?)
wheels on luggage
wheels on garbage cans
(really, you'd think the wheel wasn't invented until 1960 or something)
re-sealable packages for food
cell phones
wireless routers
voice mail

Here's some things I think we've taken steps backwards on:
call waiting (completely bypassing the wondrous invention of voice mail)
plastic bottles for soft drinks (if you're old enough to remember the taste of Coke from a glass bottle you know what I mean)
having to pay for television reception (all we used to have to do is throw an antenna on the roof, it was free)
eliminating drive-in theaters (how economical for families is that, you bring your own food/drink and, you can be loud in your own car without bothering too many other people)
adding lotion to facial tissue

Countdown to TDay, T minus 2

Is a Prime Minister one that is not a product of two Ministers?

I think, and this is not at all related, that every modern kitchen, certainly my next house's kitchen, should have two dishwashers. One for dirty, one for clean.

I also think that the laundry room should have one of those kewl revolving walls, that gets you into your closet.

My boo boo has been sick

She wants me to feed her but I can't. Her pancreatic and liver enzymes are high, so she has to fast. Why does fasting last so long? :(

Back in the swing of things

So to speak. Had a fantastic golf lesson yesterday with Jan. Geez it felt like I was actually getting it. It really felt good. This was followed by beers and fajitas and a righteous nap. Naps rule. Hung out in Japantown last night with a friend, and had the most delicious calamari I've ever had in my life. It wasn't fried, it was just done in a big platter and was tender as noodles. Yum May.

Today I worked a bit in the yard. Who are we kidding, I picked up dog poop. I also brought in some bodacious flowers. Roses in November. How kewl is that.

Bijou in Hayward

Last night, I met up with the Andersons and the Von Busacks at Bijou in Hayward, where our good friend Jay Crabb works. What a beautiful place, I really like the decor. The food was spectacular, as was the company, to say the least. I enjoyed three artisan cocktails made by Mr. Crabb himself. Out of the three my new favorite is the Kachumber Cooler.

"A symphony of unique flavors star in this truly "culinary" cocktail! Fresh jalapeno, cilantro, cucumber, hand-pressed lime juice and your choice of Right Gin or Patron Tequila."
I had mine with gin. It was kickass.

Today was more pedestrian. Did chores and worked on a presentation I'm giving tomorrow for 50+ people.

I started my day getting my favorite drink at Fourbux, grande non fat latte with sugar free vanilla and an extra shot. I'm very suspicious of this drink. I think they're lying to me about the fat free and sugar free. Yet I go back.

Moxie and I ran today for the first time in ages. AGES. I think it might be two months since we went for a run. It felt AWESOME. Moxie is exhausted and I think very grateful. I wuv Moxie.

Watching the photos on the Jim Lehrer hour show tonight, of the fallen soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. So damn sad. Why does Marine Corps sound exactly Marine Corpse in my head right now? Not funny, I know. I'm just so sad. They were all 19, 20 and 21 years old. Babies. Those babies are dead now. Dammit.

Random thoughts

First thought, bird seed. Funny name for bird food. Yes it's seeds, but we don't call dog food, dog grain and dried meat protein, or cat food, cat fish, or human apples just because humans eat apples. And you don't plant bird seeds to get birds. My point, it should be called bird food.

Another puzzlement, is really, where is the bird seed (food) industry? Who farms and packages the bird seeds? I have never seen a sign to a place claiming to be a bird seed factory or bird seed farm. It's a mystery.

I have been addicted to Netflix instant movies, been watching old Columbo and Amazing Stories. I also have Alfred Hitchcock Presents in my queue. I must have watched six shows yesterday, maybe more.

I actually did get out and about this weekend, on Saturday. Went to Santa Cruz for Mexican food and then to Soquel for some wine tasting. Also to Beauregard which is a bit out of the way. Why does Mexican food always put me into a coma? It's worse than Thanksgiving day food.
